MOGA, Aug 17: The Punjab government is planning to make suitable changes in the education system to prepare children to face the future.

This was announced by Education Minister Tota Singh at Muktsar on Saturday. He said that the state had also decided to teach English from the primary classes and the formal inauguration of this scheme would be done by Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on August 25. The Education Minister said the state government was also proposing to start model schools in the rural areas.

Tota Singh also stated that the Punjab government has allocated Rs 20 crore for the repair and construction of 2,000 school buildings during the current financial year. The Education minister called upon religious leaders to come forward and undertake the construction and repair of schools through `kar seva’.

The minister expressed concern over the dropout rate of students after primary level and said the government was giving special attention to check this and had been successful in reducing the rate from 43 per cent to 29 per cent.
