NEW DELHI, August 8: The mysterious deaths of Monica Malik and Rajiv Raja took a curious turn when The Indian Express discovered on Friday that the girl was listed in Safdarjung Hospital’s casualty register as “Unknown”.
The police on Thursday said that Monica’s inert body was brought to Safdarjung by Rajiv’s father, who took his son to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).
On Friday there were report of cops having taken Monica’s body to Safdarjung hospital but it was not supported by evidence. Also, Monica’s family was informed of the tragedy at least a couple of hours after the bodies were discovered.
One setback to the investigation could be that the police first headed for the hospitals where the victims were and only later arrived at the place where the two bodies were found. Investigators feel, vital clues might have been wiped off.
The lethal poison found in Rajiv’s stomach is available commonly in the form of insecticides. The poison is extremely bitter, andtherefore minimises the possibility of it being injested unknowingly.
What has led the police to think that Rajiv may have committed suicide was that there was no evidence of “application of force” The only sign of injury was on the right hand, which could have been nailmarks, according to the post-mortem report.
The sample of vomit found in the garage has been sent to the Central Forensic lab, Lodi Road. Semen samples of the duo have been sent for analysis to a Bangalore laboratory to ascertain whether they match.
Monica and Rajiv were found dead on Wednesday morning in Raja’s car which was parked inside his INA colony house garage.
