Senior Orissa police officer B B Mohanty on Saturday appealed to his son Biti Mohanty, a rape convict who had jumped parole over a month ago, to surrender and rubbished allegations that he was shielding him. The Orissa DGP (Homeguards) also reiterated his demand for shifting his son to a jail in his home state of Orissa to help him “reintegrate” with society.

Mohanty, facing a police case for allegedly hiding his son, asked Biti to surrender “even if he is apprehending that he will be further tortured and even if he is lodged in Jaipur Central Jail. It’s in his interest. He has to surrender as that is the only way…,” he told CNN-IBN news channel.

Mohanty said Biti should be shifted to a jail in Orissa to facilitate his return to the mainstream of the society. “There will be some family link, psychiatric treatment and the service of a doctor”. Otherwise, there is no difference whether he is kept in Central jail, Jaipur or on Circle Jail, Chaudah, he added.
