The Rashtriya Swyamsevak Sangh (RSS) here today expressed apprehension over more Godhra-like attacks and declared that it would not interfere if the BJP decided to remove Narendra Modi as Gujarat Chief Minister.

RSS spokesman M.G. Vaidya said they were not bothered about whether Modi stayed or didn’t, it was for the BJP to decide. ‘‘We did not rejoice when he was installed and we will not be saddened if he is removed,’’ he said.

The RSS, according to Vaidya, had told Vajpayee that fundamentalists could carry out more Godhra-like attacks at the behest of Pakistan. He attributed this apprehension to ‘‘information with the RSS’’, but did not name the targeted states.

On the BJP-RSS meetings, Vaidya said RSS leaders had also asked Prime Minister A.B. Vajpayee and other BJP leaders to consult Sangh outfits like the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh and the Swadeshi Jagran Manch before taking important decisions on economic policies.

He said there was a ‘‘general discussion on the organisational structure of the BJP’’ and conceded that the RSS leaders had suggested that the party strengthen itself and activate its state units. However, he maintained that there was no discussion on the Ayodhya issue. ‘‘The matter is in the court,’’ he maintained. He said the issue of the BJP’s decision to tie up with the BSP in Uttar Pradesh never came up for a discussion and neither did the Opposition’s censure motion.

Vaidya claimed the Muslims in Gujarat had been on the offensive against Hindus since April 13. He charged the media with a partisan role, playing up only the Muslim suffering.
