NEW DELHI, FEB 26: A Jet Airways aircraft, which was to take-off for Chennai, was "taken over" by "hijackers" at the Bangalore airport this afternoon. The "hijackers" did not allow the aircraft to take off till their "demands" were met. This was a mock exercise carried out by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) to test the efficacy of security and other agencies in dealing with such situations, BCAS chief V Aivalli told newsmen here. The exercise comes barely two months after hijacking of the Indian Airlines flight from Kathmandu. In the exercise, the aircraft was taken over by so-called hijackers at 1306 hours who "pressured" the pilots not to start the engines till their demands were met.The exercise, which concluded at 1500 hours, put to test all agencies and personnel on duty during the period, Aivalli said.Civil Aviation Ministry sources said that the report and feedback of the exercise would be analysed by BCAS, Airports Authority of India, Director General of Civil Aviation and other security agencies and follow-up action taken. The effort was to pin-point the loopholes or lapses, if any, during the entire episode, they added.
