SURAT, July 26: Apart from a accident that resulted in the filling up of water in a rescue boat, the two mock drills demonstrating ways to deal with a flood situation at Nawdi Owaaro and Singanpore on the Tapi on Monday went on smoothly.

Such mock drills will continue on Tuesday and Wednesday on different locations in and around the city in a bid to provide adequate training to the personnel in case of a flood.

The mock drill went as per schedule at Nawdi Owaaro at Nanpura area on the Tapi with fire personnel lowering a motorised rescue boat into the river and making a round of Chowpatty. Divers also threw rescue gears, like tubes, in the river and displayed their swimming skills for about an hours.

However, there was slight trouble when the lower part of the rescue boat tore open while being towed ashore over a cement concrete slab, which led to filling up of water in the boat. The mock drill later in the afternoon went smoothly with the department displaying swimming, rescuing and boating skills.
