Like countless others, Shailesh Akrand (41), too, was carrying his mobile phone in his shirt pocket when a small shrapnel from an explosion hit him. Akrand, a cloth merchant from Himmatnagar in Sabarkantha had come to the city to buy supplies for his store. “At 6:50 pm, I heard a big explosion. Before I could look that side, I knew something had hit me on the chest,” said Akrand. With injuries on his limbs, he crawled to the nearby pavement and collapsed. “It was around 8 pm that I came back to my senses at the L G Hospital in Maninagar,” said Akrand. A nurse brought his damaged Nokia 1100 mobile to him. “I could not believe it, the phone looked as if a hole had been drilled through it. The nurse said they had taken out a small shrapnel from the phone… Like Coolie, in which Amitabh Bachchan was saved by his identity plate, my moblie saved me.”
