KHARAR, Sept 22: Punjab Minister for Food and Supplies and a senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party Madan Mohan Mittal has said that religion could not be separated from politics but the misuse of religion and the presence of communalism in politics was unfortunate. He was addressing a gathering after inaugurating the stage of `Sampuran Harayana Play’ organised by the Sri Ram Lila Dramatic Club here at the Mahavira Chowk on Sunday night.

Mittal called upon the people to follow the teachings of lord Rama and praised the lauded the services of the club for the last 30 years. The minister announced a special grant of Rs 20,000 from his discretionary fund for the club.

Earlier, while talking to media persons, the food and supplies minister said the ban on mustard oil in the state has been lifted in view of the difficulties being faced by the consumers but the government would strictly monitor the situation. The officials and testing agencies had been warned that they would be held responsible for any further mishap.

Memo Submitted: Representative of various social, political and religious organisations of the township and elected representatives of the area have demanded that the Punjab Government close down the illegal cattle export centre situated on the Kharar-Kurali highway at Khanpur village which falls under the Kharar municipal limits.A joint memorandum to this effect was submitted to the Punjab Minister for Food and Supplies Madan Mohan Mittal during his Kharar visit on Sunday night.

The memorandum states that 20 truck-loads of cattle are sent daily to slaughter houses in Uttar Pradesh and Delhi. The cargo included old and barren buffaloes, male buffaloes and their calves while all type of cattle ill or stolen, are sold and purchased from here. The memorandum states that the cattle are kept in a miserable condition and the loading and unloading goes on in a cruel way which hurts the religious sentiments of the people and causes traffic bottlenecks on the national highway.

Mittal assured that he would take up the matter with Chief Minster Prakash Singh Badal.
