Just two days before a trust vote in the Assembly, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Mukut Mithi today made a vain attempt to woo breakaway Congress MLAs and a legislator belonging to rival camp was allegedly abducted by Congress supporters.

Mithi tried to enter Hotel Bomdi-La, where all the 42 UDF MLAs, including its leader Gegong Apang who has staked claim to form a new ministry, are camping. But he was not allowed in.

Mithi, whose government was reduced to a minority following a split in the Congress Legislature Party, pleaded with the agitated members to allow him to speak to some of his colleagues but had to return empty hand.

Nyato Rigia, a legislator belonging to the UDF was ‘‘kidnapped’’ from the hotel. UDF secretary L. Wanglat alleged that Rigia was assaulted and abducted by Congress supporters.

Rigia, however, returned to the hotel and said he had a meeting with the Chief Minister in the afternoon.

In a statement to a local TV channel, Rigia said while he was going to meet his family members from UDF camp this morning, some Congress workers stopped his vehicle and forced him to accompany them to Mithi.

Since they were adamant, he met the Chief Minister. After a brief discussion with Mithi, Rigia said he returned to the hotel.
