AMBALA, Sept 5: Barring a minor altercation between a woman activist of district Congress Committee and a youth from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over bogus voting at a polling booth in Ambala city, the election here was peaceful in the Ambala (reserved) parliamentary constituency.

A complaint was lodged by the Congress against Rajiv, a nephew of local legislator Faqir Chand Aggarwal, saying that he tried to cast a bogus vote and after being caught, entered into a quarrel with district Mahila Congress president Vijay Takkar and used unparliamentary laguageto address the former. However, both the groups were later pacified by the police. The voting, which started with a low percentage during the first two hours, reached 50 per cent by the end of the day. Maximum polling of 67 per cent was registered in Mullana Assembly constituency followed by Naggal and Naraingarh with 65 and 67 per cent respectively.

The lowest polling was, however, recorded in Jagdhari Assembly constituency with a turnout of only 51 per cent.

The voters in village Ghoron Pipli in Chhachrauli Assembly segment boycotted the election and did not exercise their franchise. They were protesting against the indifferent attitude of the administration and also party candidates to accept their demand of constructing a bridge on Buri Nadi that connected their village with Haryana, as they had to come to the district via Uttar Pradesh territory.
