The Union Home Ministry is giving final touches to the action taken report (ATR) of the Nanavati Commission which probed the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. The ATR will be placed before the Union Cabinet for approval soon.Home Minister Shivraj Patil today discussed the report with senior Ministry officials, including Home Secretary Dhirendra Singh. The officials said the Ministry intends to place the report before Parliament in the current session. They refused to reveal the details of the ATR but claimed it contained nothing that could leave the UPA Government red in the face.Apart from the Nanavati Commission, at least 10 other probe panels have inquired into the 1984 riots and action taken report for each have been tabled in Parliament. The officials contended that many of the recommendations of the Nanavati Commission have also figured in previous commissions, in some form or the other, and action has been initiated by the Ministry too. In addition, the courts have proceeded against some of the suspects. And several of them have been acquitted due to lack of evidence.
