New Delhi, Apr 11: Minister of state for Sports S S Dhindsa has called Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly, coach Kapil Dev and board of control for cricket in India (BCCI) functionaries for a meeting on April 27 to discuss is the issue of match fixing.
”I have called Kapil, Ganguly, senior BCCI officials including its president and former captains and managers of the Indian team for a meeting on April 27 in New Delhi to discuss the issue,”Mr Dhindsa told ‘Zee news’ on telephone from Sangrur in Punjab.
The Minister said in the wake of the charges against Southafrican skipper Hansie Cronje and some of his team mates that they fixed matches of the last month’s pepsi one-day series against India in return of Financial favours by bookmakers, it had become important to discuss the issue.
”Cronje’s admission that he had received money from bookmakers earlier in the day overwhelmed the cricketing community the world over.
Delhi police commissioner Ajai Raj Sharma, however, said that investigations in the case after the arrest of one of the bookies on Thursday had not thrown up any names of Indian players so far.
