SANGRUR, Feb 12: Minister for Food and Supplies Madan Mohan Mittal has constituted a three- member committee for a thorough probe into malfunctioning of Anganwaris in the district. The three-member committee includes ADC (Development), SP (D) and the district health office. The committee has been directed to submit its report within one month.Mittal ordered the probe, yesterday, at a meeting of the District Development and Planning Board, following SDM, Sangrur, Indu Malhotra, expressing concern over poor attendance of Anganwari employees in rural areas. She expressed concern over the quality of eatables provided to children at these centres which were "unfit for human consumption," besides poor attendance of children at the centres.Speaking on the occasion, Mittal said that an amount of over Rs 300 lakh was earmarked under various development schemes of the district for the year 1998-99. Giving details of the amount given under various schemes, Mittal revealed that an amount of Rs 45.01 lakh was given under the Shagun Scheme, Rs 26.84 lakh for health schemes, Rs 15 lakh for rural water supply schemes and Rs 8. 12 lakh for construction of Ambedkar Bhawan. Mittal said that Rs 24.63 lakh was allotted for attendance scholarships to primary girl students, Rs 11.09 lakh for rural development, Rs 30 lakh for pavement of streets and drains and Rs 90.60 lakh for urban development.Mittal directed various heads of departments who had not yet submitted their utilisation certificates to submit these without any further delay.
