National Textile Corporation Ltd (NTC) chairman K M Chaddha has been relieved of his charge and put on compulsory wait. The decision comes at a time when PSU chiefs have complained to Chief Vigilance Commissioner about ‘‘harassment’’ by their Ministers seeking personal favours.

However, in this case, both Chaddha, a 1968 batch IAS officer, and his Textiles Minister Shahnawaz Hussain denied that any complaint was made.

Chaddha was shunted out of the NTC through a Ministry order yesterday. Sunil Bhargav, a Joint Secretary, has been been asked to take charge of the ailing PSU—till a new chief is appointed.

Hussain told The Indian Express that Chaddha had been moved out as he had ‘‘adjustment problems with his colleagues in the Ministry.’’ And that the proposal for his removal was moved by his predeccesor Kashi Ram Rana.

When asked if Chaddha had complained to the CVC about him, Hussain said: ‘‘How can he complain against me? I haven’t even done a review of NTC.’’

Rana, currently Rural Development Minister, said: ‘‘I did take the initiative for his removal. He was not working efficiently and wasn’t expeditiously implementing the NTC revival plan.’’

When asked, Rana said, ‘‘No one complained against me to the CVC.’’ Chaddha, too, said he had not sent any complaint. Told that the Ministers said he wasn’t efficient, he said, ‘‘It’s their version. The version of the other party hasn’t been taken into account.’’ The Nagaland cadre officer said that the NTC had earned over Rs 300 crore by selling off obsolete machinery and mill land.
