CHANDIGARH, Feb 7: The Samana Police have registered a case against a private miller who has allegedly embezzled paddy worth Rs 1.09 crore belonging to the Markfed.

According to Sanjiv Gupta, DIG, Patiala range, the case was registered after taking legal opinion from the district attorney (Legal). Investigations were in progress, he added.

Earlier, the Markfed authorities had written to the senior police officers for registration of a criminal case against the miller after it was found during the physical verification of the stocks that the paddy had been misappropriated.

Ranjit Goyal, president of the Markfed Employees Union, said here today that government paddy had also been embezzled at other places also including by the millers at Nabha and Ferozpur. He demanded that case also be egistered against all such private millers who had embezzled paddy.
