In an interesting judgment, the Metropolitan Magistrate Court on Friday held a milk vendor guilty of selling adulterated milk and sentenced him to six months in prison and a penalty of Rs 1,000.
Metropolitan Magistrate G C Gamit pronounced further 30 days in imprisonment if the accused failed to pay the fine.
The accused, Pannalal Mahadev, was booked under the ‘Prevention of Food Adulteration Act’ for selling adulterated milk in his shop in Parmeshwar Park Society in Amraiwadi on October 22, 1999.
The incident came to light when Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation’s flying squad paid a surprise visit to the shop.
Milk samples were taken to the public health laboratory for testing.
