VADODARA, Sept 17: The heavy incessant downpour partially affected the availability of milk in the city on Thursday, with retailers in J P Road and Sama complaining of a shortage of milk and late delivery by the Baroda Dairy.A Baroda Dairy spokesman attributed this to the fall in milk supply. ``Against 1.78 lakh litres, we have been receiving only 1.35 litres of milk from cooperative societies for the past five days'', he said. ``The damage to roads is also impeded the supply of milk to the city. Normally, we provide 2.5 lakh litres of milk to the city daily''.He warned that milk supplies may be further affected if the rains continued, as the state of the roads would deteriorate further.Prices of vegetables, however, were not affected. ``Since vegetables are perishable, we can't store it. So we dispose of them immediately. That is why there is no rise in prices, except in the case of onions, which come from Nashik'', said Shrichandbhai, a wholesale dealer.
