Militants today shot at the editor of Srinagar-based Urdu daily New State Reporter, causing him serious injuries. Abdul Rashid Tantray alais Shahid Rashid was fired at when he came out of his home at Lalnagar, Chanpora, around 9.15 am. Eyewitnesses and police said two attackers fired and escaped. Rashid was taken to SMHS hospital and operated on. Doctors said he is out of danger. A hitherto unknown group, Save Kashmir Movement (SKM), has claimed responsibility and charged the editor with ‘‘working with an intelligence agency under the guise of press’’. Police sources claimed Rashid worked with a militant group, Al Barq, in the nineties. Police sources said SKM is a Hizbul Mujahideen frontal organisations of the Hizbul Mujahideen.
