CHANDIGARH, April 16: The city police will shortly have mikes and speakers on police vehicles. This is being done to ensure that if any law is violated, the police can warn the public while they are on the move.

The Superintendent of Police (traffic) told Newsline that the department is in the process of procuring about six big mikes and 50 mikes which will be installed in the vehicles of senior police officials including sub-divisional police officers (SDPOs).

Official sources said that the vehicles of station house officers (SOs) might also be provided with mikes. This will help to prevent illegal parking, violation of traffic rules and encroachments within shops, in particular.

The officials said that they are planning to give mikes to traffic police constables. “This will also help us catch those trying to run away after committing an offence,” said the official.

Few underage drivers on road very few challans were issued on the first day of the drive against minor drivers today.

According to a traffic police official, the exact figures were not available but there were hardly any under-age drivers on the road.

The traffic police also went around the markets of the city to ensure there was no chaos at parking points. “We are going to at least five sectors every day,” he said.
