REDMOND, NOV 21: Microsoft will provide computer manufacturers and retailers with updated versions of Windows 98 and other products in order to comply with a preliminary injunction in a civil law suit by Sun Microsystems, the company has said.US District Judge Ronald Whyte in San Jose, California, on Tuesday granted Sun a preliminary injunction in its lawsuit against Microsoft. Sun claimed that Mirosoft violated its licensing agreement for the Sun programming language Java.Microsoft has been given 90 days to comply with the order and rewrite its Windows 98 operating system, its Internet Exploer 4.0 browser and other software products to make them fully compatible with Sun's Java.However, Microsoft said that stores and resellers may continue to sell the current stock of Microsoft products. Modified versions of Windows 98 and other Microsoft products will be made available to the retail channel as soon as possible in compliance with the court order, Microsoft stated.
