Men’s team bags freestyle gold; Women win silver

India emerged champions in the men’s freestyle event, while becoming runners-up in women’s team and Greco-Roman competition

India emerged champions in the men’s freestyle event, while becoming runners-up in women’s team and Greco-Roman competition, in the Commonwealth Wrestling Championship in Ontario, Canada, according to information received here.

India won five gold, four silver and a bronze in the men’s freestyle event to win the title. In Greco-Roman, India’s haul of five gold and five silver fetched them the silver. The women kept up the good work done by the men’s team by coming second in the team event. They won a gold, five silver and a bronze medal.

Twenty-five of the 27-strong contingent won medals in the meet held from June 15 to 17.

Freestyle: Gold — Kripa Shankar Patel (55 kg), Yogeshwar Dutt (60 kg), Sushil Kumar (66), Anil Kumar Mann (96), Rajiv Tomar (120). Silver — Amit Kumar Dhankar (66), Hardeep Singh (66), Narsingh Pancham Yadav (74), Joginder Kumar (120). Bronze — Amit Kumar (84).

Greco-Roman: Gold — Kanhya Lal Yadav (55), Ravinder Singh (60), Gurbinder Singh (66), Manoj Kumar (84), Atul Kumar Mann (96). Silver — Kripa Shankar Patel (55), Yogeshwar Dutt (60), Sanjay (74), Ashok Kumar (96), Dharmender Dalal (120).

Women: Gold — Nirmala Devi (48kg); Silver — Kamini Yadav (51), Manju (55), Geetika Jathar (63), Jyoti (67) Minakshi Devi (72); Bronze — Alka Tomar (59).
