BADDI, Sept 8: To help create an awareness in the industrial sector for conservation of energy and reducing pollution, the Petroleum Conservation Research Association (PCRA) organised a Consumer Meet, here today, in association with the Baddi-Barotiwala-Nalagarh Industrial Association and the Association of Institute of Foundary men, Chandigarh chapter.
The meet, attended by representatives of various industries in Baddi, Barotiwala, Nalagarh and Parwanoo, provided a common platform to the industry for interacting and exchanging the success stories on energy conservation and efficient technology requirements.
In his welcome address, president of the Baddi-Barotiwala-Nalagarh Industries Association, A.R. Singh, exhorted the members to come forward in adopting energy efficient processes and technologies, in order to keep their products competitive even in the international market.
In his inaugural address, Director of Service Institute of Small Industries, Solan, S.P. Gandhar, said that the industrial sector alone consumed about 30 per cent of the total petroleum products and it was thus necessary to reduce the oil consumption.
Chief Regional Coordinator of PCRA, Northern Region, U.P. Singh, in his keynote address highlighted the role of PCRA in helping conserve energy and towards energy audit in various ypes of industries. He also highlighted that energy audit conducted by PCRA in more than 700 industries had been effective in saving about 10 to 20 per cent of petroleum products and electrical energy through their studies.
While presenting their papers, Prof P. Tharaja of Punjab Engineering College Chandigarh and Amrit Pal Singh called for energy conservation in the foundaries and production of energy efficient castings.Those present suggested more thrust on energy audit in medium and small industries who equipment suppliers did not have access to latest energy efficient technologies, involement of the top management, vigil on energy and fuel cost, which was an important input cost to make the product price more competitive.
