November 12: Prem Singh Meena, the IAS officer who was accused by his wife Santosh Meena of wife battering, has said in a written press statement that all such charges levelled against him are false and malafide.

“Since my in-laws are rich, my wife started dominating me and my family from the very first day. I had neither demanded nor accepted any dowry from my in-laws,” stated Meena. He alleged that his wife had forced him to earn more money through dishonest means to keep up a high lifestyle which he refused.

Meena also stated that he had to admit his kids to a boarding school in Panchagani on account of her alleged infidelity (he claims to have proof in this regard).

“After failing to counsel her and settle the matter amicably I served notice on her for mutual divorce after which she and her brothers filed a dowry case under Section 498 A of IPC… I have lodged a police complaint against her brother on November 4, ’97 for housebreaking and theft and another case two days later for physical assault,” said Meena.

He also denied the charges of throwing his wife out of a running car earlier this year. “She (Santosh) tried to jump from jeep when I was driving vehicle myself from Panvel. How can a driver push a person who is sitting on the rear seat behind him from the running vehicle?” he questioned.

He also wondered why Santosh and her brothers waited for 14 years before registering a case against him. “I request the media and public at large to bear with a sad and tragic story of an IAS officer,” said Meena in the signed statement.
