Australian fast bowler Glenn McGrath has been fined 25 per cent of his match fee for an audible obscenity. McGrath was fined A$3,000 ($2,200) and reprimanded by English match referee Chris Broad for shouting an obscenity after New Zealand umpire Billy Bowden turned down a leg before wicket appeal on Jayasuriya. The report was submitted by all four officiating umpires, who said that McGrath’s foul language could be heard from the boundary line. Cricket Australia said that it would take no further action against McGrath under the Australian players’ code of conduct.

Sri Lanka held the Australian attack at bay with Chaminda Vaas and Nuwan Zoysa playing out the remaining 57 balls in fading light.
