MELBOURNE, APRIL 1: Cricket’s oldest Test venue, the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), may lay vacant next summer following the collapse of talks over its future.
An agreement between the ground manager and the Victorian Cricket Association (VCA) under which cricket has been played at the MCG in recent summers expired today. The breakdown in negotiations over terms to continue the sport’s 122-year association could hit the summer cricket calendar.VCA chairman Malcolm Gray blamed the lack of response from Melbourne Cricket Club (MCC) the ground managers for VCA having to look elsewhere to stage games. The traditional Boxing Day Test, ODIs and state games could be lost from the ground as bickering over money from television rights continues.
