MCC has decided to donate 25,000 pounds immediately towards reconstruction of the Galle Cricket Stadium in Sri Lanka which was devastated by the killer tsunami last month. “We are very keen… To support the reconstruction of the stadium in Galle where cricket has long played a key role in the life of the local community,” secretary and chief executive of MCC Roger Knight said in a release here today.
Mcc has also responded positively to a request from Sri Lanka cricket received yesterday to stage a major fund-raising event in the world-famous Long Room at Lord’s. The club has even approached the ECB and the International Cricket Council with a view to stage a major fund-raising match at Lord’s during the 2005 cricket season.

Paris: FIFA and UEFA are planning to stage a fundraising match in February to raise money for the victims of the Asian tsunami disaster. “Various federations announced their wish to organise charity matches with a view to donating the revenue to the solidarity fund,” FIFA said in a statement yesterday.
