Chandigarh, March 29: The Chandigarh Municipal Corporation today removed encroachments from the extreme southern end of Himalaya Marg, on one of the roads connecting Chandigarh and SAS Nagar. Marble traders had used the berms on either side of the road to stack stone slabs and erect shop signs.

Officials said that this was being done in anticipation of the increased traffic on the road during the India-Pakistan one-day international cricket match to be played at PCA Stadium in SAS Nagar on April 1.

They said that most of the traders had removed the encroachments themselves and added that no material would be Shopkeepers, however, said that the MC officials arrived without any notice and asked them to push their material away. 8220;Yesterday they said it should be 10 feet away and this morning they asked us to push the material some 25 feet back,8221; Marble Traders8217; Association president Narata Mal Gupta said. 8220;We have lost several lakhs because of this,8221; he added.
