Ahead of a joint BJP-BSP meeting to be addressed by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati on September 8, the state BJP is preparing a list of officials who have allegedly misbehaved with party workers in recent days.‘‘The exercise to identify the officials is already on and some action has also been taken on complaints of party workers. It is true that party workers lack enthusiasm. But going by the political compulsion which forced the formation of this coalition, the priority should be that this government runs,’’ BJP leader Kalraj Mishra said. The party does not want to be seen as unprepared on the issue as it would send a wrong message to its own cadre.Fearful that Mayawati may try to win them over at the joint meeting, the BJP has embarked on special programmes to ensure participation of its workers.‘‘Grassroots workers are yet to come to terms with the coalition,’’ Kalraj said. Mayawati’s recent overtures to BJP workers and MLAs has sent alarm bells ringing in the BJP. BJP MLAs are all praises for the Chief Minister. Mayawati has now taken this battle for hearts right into the BJP camp by targetting BJP workers. She is expected to win them over by taking some decisions in their favour at the joint meeting.
