BHOPAL, DEC 24: The state archaeological departmen of Bhopal has found remains of Mauryan era at village Ninnore about on banks of river Narmda, official sources today said.The department after indications of anicent civilisation were found in village, near Bheem Baitka famous for its stone carvings in 1996 started digging in an area 1spread over 1.5 sq.km found remains of Mughal, Gupta and Mauryan eras.Many remains of the Mauryan period were found not only in Ninnore but also in villages surrounding it, sources said, adding, the spot was noticed only after mounds became visible following receding of floods in the Narmada river.Silver coins belonging to Mughal era and coins made of copper and other metals from Mauryan era along with weapons and bangles were also discovered during digging.The findings indicate that the civilisation prevalent at that time was almost on par with the present one since some pieces of utensils made from bone China were also discovered.A number of moulds used to prepare gold jewellery were also found during the digging which gives the impression that the area may have been inhabited by goldsmiths. The remains also indicate that this area was a main centre for trade and business during the Mauryan era.The living conditions also indicate that people at that time were concerned about environment conservation. They even had proper sewage system preventing flow of dirty water into river.
