PATIALA, June 24: Chief Secretary, Punjab, R. S. Maan, has summoned a meeting for June 26 at Chandigarh on the issue of alleged illegal construction on the land of the local Mata Kaushalaya Hospital, according to a communication received here today, which has been addressed to Mata Kaushalaya Hospital Bachao Committee.

The Chief Secretary has called Deputy Commissioner, Patiala, Hospital Bachao Committee and PCMSA, Punjab, to resolve the issue. Principal Secretary, Home, G.P.S. Sahi, Principal Secretary, Health, Rajesh Chhabra, and Principal Secretary, PWD, P. Ram, have also been called for the meeting.

Mata Kaushalaya Hospital Bachao Committee and PCMS Association had submitted a representation to Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee to seek his intervention to stop the encroachment on the land of the century-old women hospital, where a judicial-cum-administrative complex is being constructed. The Prime Minister had instructed the Punjab government to take appropriate action in the matter.

Both organisations had also demanded vacation of adjoining old Rajindra hospital complex which is allegedly in unlawful possession of the district administration. Even the district courts are functioning from the same premises. The hospital bachao committee had demanded a CBI probe into the matter.

Meanwhile, the hospital staff is working under protest and wore black badges for the second day today. The protest is now spreading to various other commercial and residential areas of the city, indicating growing public support in favour of the hospital, according to Dr M. S. Randhawa, convenor of Mata Kaushalaya Hospital Bachao Committee.
