CHANDIGARH, Sept 3: The employees of market committees from Punjab sat in dharna, outside the Sector 17 Punjab Mandi Board office, here today. They were protesting the non-implementation of their "long-pending" demands which include a common cadre for employees, removing anomalies in service rules and pay-scales, special allowances for wireless operators and hike in various allowances.They raised slogans against the Punjab Government for being "indifferent" towards their demands.
Punjab Market Committee Employees Union general secretary Rachpal Singh alleged that the government’s approach was dictatorial and appealed to the members to continue their struggle.
Union’s state secretary Gian Chand accused the state government of betraying the employees by not fulfilling their demands.
Those who took part in the rally included block president Jagdish Singh, secretary Variyam Singh and other activists Parkash Singh, Surjit Singh, Pritpal Singh and Darshan Singh.
