HAVANA, FEB 7: Football legend Diego Maradona landed the first kick in the Cuban National championship final on Sunday, a match held in honour of the former Argentina captain.

“I am totally proud to be able to be in this stadium and to see a Cuban football final,” said Maradona. “Diego! Diego! Diego!” the crowd shouted as Maradona, looking much more rested, strutted across the field and waved to the stands.

Although baseball is Cuba’s National sport, Maradona’s presence appears to have ignited interest in soccer.
