The leader of Nepal’s Maoist rebels vowed to wage a relentless war against King Gyanendra for his ‘‘coup’’ against the elected government, a magazine reported on Thursday. The Hong Kong-based Far Eastern Economic Review magazine said that it conducted via e-mail an interview with the Maoists’ elusive leader Pushpa Kamal Dahal, who is known by his other name, Prachanda.‘‘The latest step taken by this regicidal and fratricidal ‘King’ Gyanendra is nothing less than a feudal, autocratic, military coup,’’ Prachanda was quoted as saying by the magazine.‘‘This desperate attempt of the feudal ‘Lord’ will ultimately be smashed by our great people,’’ he said.Gyanendra on October 4 declared then prime minister Sher Bahadur Deuba ‘‘incompetent’’ and assumed power for a week before appointing staunch monarchist Lokendra Bahadur Chand to head an interim government until elections are held. The king has suspended a parliamentary vote due next week and has not announced new dates. Prachanda said the Maoists, who are fighting to topple the monarchy, would not cooperate with any election. ‘‘Our party has already decided that without any political resolution of the civil war, no election will be held,’’ he said.He said the Maoists did not favour new negotiations to end their insurgency, which has claimed an estimated 5,000 lives since 1996.
