In an effort to reach out to her detractors, Sangeet Natak Akademi chairperson Sonal Mansingh has written to 12 artistes seeking an amicable solution to the crisis in the body.

The letter, to those who had resigned from the Akademi protesting the chairperson’s ‘‘autocratic and undemocratic’’ style of functioning, said she was available for an exchange of ideas to resolve issues in a congenial atmosphere.

But the artistes opposing her were in no mood to relent saying the move was ‘‘very late’’ and was part of her ‘‘new strategy’’ to cling to the post.

‘‘I always believed in working with consensus and transperancy as has been evident in all meetings of the Akademi held so far,’’ Mansingh wrote. The dansuese said she had been experiencing a ‘‘sense of bewilderment’’ as she came to know about their resignations from newspapers.

Carnatic musician Balamuralikrishna, who resigned from Akademi executive council, said Mansingh’s move was ‘‘very late and still she is not ready to apologise for the mistakes she made’’. The veteran musician said the letter did not contain any positive elements and there was ‘‘no indication’’ of a change in style.
