MANSA, March 6: The District Bar Association, Mansa, in an emergency meeting held under the presidentship of Gurdip Singh Bhimra today, resolved to boycott the court of the Deputy Commissioner following the alleged disrespect shown by the administration towards the judiciary and advocates at a function organised by the District Red Cross, presided over by Governor Lt.Gen B.K.N. Chhibber (retd.) here yesterday. In letters sent to the Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, Chief Minister and the Bar Council of Punjab, the association has condemned the attitude of the Deputy Commissioner and demanded his immediate transfer. There was tension at yesterday's function when officials of the Public Relations Department asked judges, advocates and some officers, who were already seated, to vacate their seats as per orders of the Deputy Commissioner following which the judges and the advocates boycotted the function and demonstrated against this humiliation.Strangely, the DC, when contacted last evening by ENS, had flatly denied any such happening and had claimed that the function went off peacefully. The Governor was the chief guest at the function held to inaugurate a `Bal Bhawan', a home for recreation and indoor games for children, constructed at a cost of Rs 25 lakh. He also distributed 87 artificial limbs and 55 tricycles to the handicapped persons.
