The Guwahati High Court today asked the Centre to take action against security personnel found to be involved in the rape and murder of Thangjam Manorama Devi in the custody of Assam Rifles. The HC called for action ‘‘without least possible delay’’ to put an end to the controversy.
‘‘The people of Manipur seek justice and it should be done forthwith to restore their confidence in the Constitution and the laws,’’ the court said.
The court also asked the government to hand over the report of the C. Upendra Singh Commission of Inquiry to the Home Ministry. The Ministry, in turn, has been asked to take action against Assam Rifles personnel, if any, indicted in the report. The Ministry will also decide on publishing the report.
The security forces were accused of raping and killing the woman.
