Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee today condemned Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for not visiting Nandigram, where 14 people died in a clash four days back. “The Prime Minister visits places which witness deaths and destructions, but he chose not to come to Nandigram which saw scores of people lose their lives to police firing. He has done so because his government depends on the support of the Marxists. We have seen the President and the Governor express concerns over the incidents but the Prime Minister has remained mum. This is shameful,” Mamata said at a rally at Esplanade, organised by her party to protest against the police firing at Nandigram. Reiterating her demand that Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee should resign from his post, the Trinamool leader demanded that Bhattacharjee should immediately be arrested. “The Chief Minister cannot get away with murders of so many people at Nandigram. His white dhoti and kurta is stained with blood. He has lost the moral authority to rule the state,” Mamata said. She also announced an Assembly March on March 23 and a series of other rallies on March 25 and 26.NDA convenor George Fernandes was among other leaders who joined the rally. A number of actors from Tollygunj were also present.Mamata also exhorted people across the state to light a candle in their households tomorrow evening in the memory of those who died in the police firing at Nandigram.
