NEW DELHI, JULY 20: The government formally announced bureaucratic reshuffle appointing PG Mankad as finance and revenue secretary on Tuesday. In all, the government has shifted/promoted 14 top bureaucrats in an exercise undertaken on the eve of general elections.

Mankad, who was information and broadcasting secretary, will replace Vijay Kelkar, who will be leaving for International Monetary Fund (IMF) as executive director. Mankad’s place in the information and broadcasting ministry will be taken over by YN Chaturvedi, who was secretary, department of family welfare.

Mankad, who is likely to take charge on Wednesday, will look after the department of revenue with revenue secretary Javed Choudhary moving on to health ministry as secretary in place of BP Singh. Singh is slated to join World Bank.

EAS Sharma, who was expenditure secretary, has been shifted to department of economic affairs in the finance ministry.

Banking secretary CM Vasudev will be the new expenditure secretary replacing EAS Sharma.Devi Dayal, secretary (coordination) in the PMO, has been appointed as banking secretary. A K Agarwal will replace Devi Dayal in the PMO.

AR Nanda will be secretary in the department of family welfare in the place of YN Chaturvedi. PK Banerjee will replace Nanda as chief commissioner of investments and NRIs in the department of economic affairs.

K Kosal Ram has been appointed as chairman, Tariff Commission, in the rank and pay of secretary. The earlier order regarding appointment of YK Khanna was cancelled.

JNL Srivastava has been appointed as special secretary and mission director, Technology Mission on Oilseeds in the department of agriculture and cooperation. ML Majumdar, adviser Planning Commission has been promoted as secretary. Similarly, SS Sharma, director-general of the National Productivity Council (NPC) has been elevated to the rank of secretary.

Shailaja Chandra has been appointed as secretary, department of Indian System of Medicine and Homeopathy.
