An unidentified man barged into the Adarsh Nagar house of a lawyer around 3 pm today and took hostage his six-year-old daughter, Aashna.
Till the filing of this report at 8.30 pm, the police had not been able to rescue the child, Aashna, or make any headway in their negotiations with the intruder who is allegedly demanding Rs 20,000.
Seema Sonrik, wife of advocate Ashok Sonrik, said the man entered the house brandishing two guns while she was at home with her 10-year-old son Arjun and daughter Aashna. He hit her on the head with the butt of a gun and threatened that he would count till 10 and then shoot them all. At this, Seema and Arjun ran but Aashna was left behind, and the intruder is now reportedly demanding Rs 20,000 to let her free.
Seema, who sustained a gash on her forehead, managed to call her husband, as the man fired two rounds, one outside and the other inside the house.
Police officials, who passed on a mobile to the man, said he told them that he had entered the house with the aim of looting Rs 20,000, but when things went awry, he was left with no option but to take the girl hostage. In addition to this, he reportedly demanded a bottle of liquor. The man’s statement has allayed earlier fears that the incident is part of a plan by the lawyer’s enemies.
