Man shot, another fired upon in separate incidents

One man died and another was sent to hospital in different firing incidents in the Capital in the past 24 hours.

In the first incident, reported around 5.30 pm Friday from Yamuna Vihar, two unidentified men on a motorcycle shot a 31-year-old man dead in Bhajanpura, Northeast Delhi.

The deceased has been identified as Maulana Mohammed Rehman, a resident of Sadar Bazaar. The incident reportedly occurred when he was on way back from Loni in Uttar Pradesh. According to the police, Rehman had gone to the UP town to scan a plot of land measuring some 500 acres. He was accompanied by two friends, Javed and Abdul Qazi. The police said the trio stopped on the road near Yamuna Vihar on their way back.

“At this point, two assailants arrived on a motorcycle and fired three rounds at the victims. One of the bullets hit Rehman on the chest,” a senior officer said. Qazi and Javed, who escaped unscathed in the sudden attack, called the police and took Rehman to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital.

He was declared dead on arrival at the hospital.

The assailants are absconding; police said it appears to be a case of personal enmity. A case of murder has been registered against unknown assailants.

In another incident reported late Thursday evening, a 24-year-old man was shot at in Palam Village, Southwest Delhi. Police officials said friends opened fire at Rajender following an altercation. The assailants are yet to be identified.

A bystander called the police, who admitted the victim in DDU Hospital. His condition is said to be stable. Rajender lives in Palam Village, the police said.
