
NEW DELHI, MAY 13: An eight-year-old boy was killed at a wedding in Punjabi Bagh on Tuesday night, when the bridegroom’s brother allegedly opened fire. The killer fled after the shooting and is still absconding. According to the police, the incident took place around midnight at Aggarwal Dharamshala in east Punjabi Bagh.
The marriage between Rekha and Guru Prakash had just been solemnised and they were posing for photographs. At this point, Guru’s elder brother Ravi Prakash decided to celebrate by firing off his double barrel licenced gun. The police say Ravi fired twice in the air.
The second time, the gun reportedly misfired. Ravi opened the breech and pressed the trigger to check what could have gone wrong. It is believed that the gun was probably not opened properly, the second bullet was fired and hit Ansit Aggarwal in the thigh by mistake.
Ansit collapsed and there was total chaos at the venue. As everyone rushed for the door, there was a virtual stampede in the huge hall. In the ensuing melee,Ravi slipped away and has not been traced since.
Ansit had accompanied his mother Nisha and his uncle Mukesh Aggarwal to the wedding. Mukesh is the employer of the bride’s father, Ram Tirath Sharma, and had been specially invited for the occasion.
Mukesh owns a saree shop in Chandini Chowk and his sister and nephew had come to the Capital from Agra for the summer. Ansit was rushed to Agrasen Hospital on Rohtak Road immediately after the incident. He succumbed to his injuries at around 4 am on Wednesday.
The police have registered a case and are looking for the accused.
