NAGPUR, APRIL 17: In a gruesome incident, a man suspecting his wife of infidelity fatally attacked her with a sword at the Defence Colony, Ambazari on Sunday morning.
The victim — Sheela Lanjewar (27), had left her brother’s home in thecolony and was on her way to a MIDC unit where she worked, when she was attacked by her husband Bhaiyyalal Lanjewar. On seeing Sheela alone, Bhaiyyalal reported followed her to a lonely place inside the colony, before assaulting her with a sword.
As Bhaiyyalal levelled an attack on Sheela, she raised an alarm for help, drawing attention of residents of nearby quarters. But even as some of the residents ventured to rush to her aid, Bhaaiyyalal threatened them of dire consequences if they did not stay back. He later repeatedly attacked her with the sword, leading to her death.
Later, a remorseful Bhaiyyalal stabbed himself in his abdomen with the sword and was shifted by cops in a critical condition to Mayo Hospital, where doctors are fighting to save his life. According to Wadi Police, Sheela got married to Bhaiyyalal two years ago and used to stay with him at Neepani Sonegaon, a village located on the outskirts of the city. Since Bhaiyyalal was unemployed, Sheela took up a job at a industrial unit at Hingna MIDC.
Bhaiyyalal soon started suspecting that Sheela was having an affair with a person from the industrial unit. He reportedly used to follow her at times and even inflict physical torture on Sheela. Fed up by the torture, Sheela narrated her plight to her brother, when the latter visited Sheela’s place a couple of days back.
He convinced Sheela to leave her husband’s place and join his family at Defence Colony. It was on her brother’s instance that Sheela also lodged complaint of torture against Bhaiyyalal at MIDC police station. The Wadi Police believe that Bhaiyyalal stabbed Sheela to death after getting furious about her suspected infidelity and the complaint she lodged against him.
Police have seized a sword from the spot which Bhaiyyalal had reportedly used to commit the crime and attempt suicide. They have booked him on the charge of murder.
