Man held for entering stadium on fake accreditation

The security personnel have detained a man for trying to enter into the Indo-Pak ODI allegedly on a fake accreditation card.

The police and security personnel on Thursday detained a man for trying to enter into the National stadium allegedly on a fake accreditation card during the Asia Cup match between India and Pakistan in Karachi.

“The man was detained after he tried to enter the stadium wearing the accreditation card issued to another person and police recovered a ticket for militancy infested South Waziristan from him,” unconfirmed sources said.

Police, however, denied to divulge any further detail about the incident.

“I can’t say anything more at this stage other than that the man has been detained at the Aziz Bhatti police station,” a source in the police said.

“The police questioned him after being suspicious as the photograph didn’t match his face. It was later transpired that the original card was issued by the local cricket association,” another source said.

The Karachi City Cricket Association has issued duty cards for international matches for its workers and the volunteers, besides the Pakistan Cricket Board and its event managers.

“The man’s link to the tribal belt had roused suspicion among the security forces,” sources said.

The Pakistan government and Army have been fighting the Islamic militants in the Waziristan tribal provinces for the last two years and a number of suicide attacks in the last few months in major cities have been traced to the militants trained in the region.
