LAHORE, FEBRUARY 18: A man charged with killing 100 children pleaded innocent on Friday saying that he was "only a witness" to the murder of some children.

"I will expose those people who are involved in this heinous crime," Javed Iqbal told the court. "I deny the charges."

Iqbal recanted an earlier confession in which he said he killed the children. He also wrote a letter to police leading them to a house where the remains of two bodies were found in a blue drum. No other bodies have been found.

Iqbal turned himself in before the authorities in December.

Iqbal’s case has caused a sensation and public outrage in Pakistan where human rights groups have called for a campaign to protect street children.

Many of the children who disappeared and are presumed dead are from extremely poor families. These children spent their days begging in the streets. The trial continues on Saturday.
