Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee on Monday abandoned her home along with her 75-year-old mother Gayatri Banerjee after an altercation with her brother Amit. She has shifted to Trinamool Bhawan in Tiljala.

According to neighbours, Banerjee had long standing disputes with Amit and Monday’s incident was a fallout of the same. The argument took place around 7.30 pm following which she left her 26, Harish Chatterjee Street house for Trinamool Bhawan, intimating the Kalighat police station on her way.

“She wrote to the Kalighat police that she was leaving her house, which will now remain under the charge of her brother and his wife. She also said since she had no residence in Kolkata at present, she would be staying at Trinamool Bhawan in Tiljala,” said Jawed Shamim, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South).

“It is true that our leader has left her home and is at present staying at Tiljala. It is her wish and I do not want to comment further,” said Sovon Chatterjee, Trinamool leader.

Locals said they saw Banerjee and her mother leave the house. Her security guards and escorts said they were stunned by her actions.
