Calcutta, Nov 8: New West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadev Bhattacharjee is facing a challenge from Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee who has announced that a dharna, being staged here by the victims of political violence in the state, would continue till the state government took steps for their return home.

Banerjee met those who are on dharna in front of the Gandhi statue on Monday night and said a meeting would be organised at the same spot where more people, who faced torture and atrocities by "CPI-M cadres and a section of police", would join.

In an apparent bid to pressurise Bhattacharjee, the Trinamool chief, who has already demanded imposition of President’s rule in the state, said the people who were driven out of their homes, would continue their dharna.

Trinamool Congress policy-making body chairman Pankaj Banerjee today said political violence has again broken out in Midnapore.

Mamata Banerje said on Monday that her fight against the CPI-M would continue irrespective of who was leading the Front Government.

She had also criticised the Marxists saying that instead of providing relief and rehabilitation to crores of flood victims, "much fanfare is being made over the issue of transfer of power in the state".
