CHANDIGARH, Nov 15: Malti Thapar, general secretary of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee, has demanded that the committee for framing Nursing Home Act for the state must include representatives from the Indian Medical Association.
In an open letter to the Punjab Chief Minister, Malti Thapar welcomed the move to pass an Act to streamline the functioning of the private health care institutions, but at the same time expressed apprehensions that the bureaucracy might draft a faulty Act to the disadvantage of these institutions. At present about 70 per cent of the health care work was being done by the private sector, she said.
Thapar demanded committee being set up to formulate the Act should also comprise, dedicated surgeons, physicians, general practitioners and social workers besides representatives of private nursing homes. Suggestions from the general public should also invited, she added.
