Wedding bells as well as finding a run-making formula in India will be on the mind of Sri Lanka vice-captain Mahela Jayawardene during the opening stages of the team’s tour.

Waving off the 27-year-old stylish batsman as the side set off today for India was Mahela’s fiancee Christina Sirisena. Their wedding date is set for November, the day Mahela’s teammates will take on

India at Pune in the fourth game of the tour.

Mahela returns to the island after the third game in Jaipur on October 31 and rejoins the team in time for the day/night game in Ahmedabad on November 6.

Sirisena (24), whose mother is Danish, is a consultant with a British-based travel company with strong cricket links in Colombo. She studied in India, Denmark and Sri Lanka and speaks several languages.

The couple met almost two years ago and were engaged in March. Wedding arrangements were well advanced before the initial limited-overs series of India planned for April and May was postponed. Although the couple tried to alter the wedding date, this wasn’t possible.
