Congress president Sonia Gandhi should rethink before contesting for the PM’s post as the people of this country will not tolerate a prime minister of Italian origin, said BJP general secretary Pramod Mahajan while addressing a party rally in Agra on Wednesday. He claimed that Prime Minister A.B. Vajpayee is planning a major ‘‘development project’’ for Agra which shall be implemented after the elections, to bring Agra on top of the world tourism map. The Opposition has still not arrived on a consensus candidate for the PM’s post and is thinking of jointly contesting the polls, Mahajan said. He put the blame for the country’s economic problems on the ‘‘50-year Congress rule’’. The BJP had got just five years to relieve the country of these problems, he said.
