Maha cabinet approves ordinance, fine for perpetrators of violence

Three clauses of the Bombay Police Act of 1951 will be amended to make the existing law more comprehensive. The ordinance empowers the district collectors to declare the concerned area as unsecured zone, an official said.

Earlier, the powers rested with the state government and it would be given to the collector after the approval of the ordinance, he said.

The collector would evaluate the damage caused to the public property and impose fine, he added.

Stung by the heavy loss to public property due to MNS agitation, Patil had said yesterday that the cabinet will take a decision about the ordinance that makes political parties pay for the damage caused by their workers.
